The MV Cuma our ‘mothership’ for the week is skippered by Murdo MacDonald, Isle of Lewis native and has been sailing the waters of St Kilda and Lewis for many decades. Accommodation on board consists of twin berth cabins with bedding and towels provided. All meals are included.

The fickle weather of the Atlantic means getting the St Kilda isn’t a given, but our skipper Murdo’s encyclopaedic knowledge of these waters gives us our best chance. We will use this to maximise our paddling and having two experienced and professional guides increases the chances of experiencing some of the jaw dropping sights, sounds and smells.

The intention will be to get out to St Kilda and paddle each day as much of the coastline as the weather allows. There will also be opportunities to paddle in other places along the Hebridean coastline.

Is it suitable for me?

Your kayaking experience level should be such that you are able to enjoy the paddling in swell and windy conditions, this is more important than ability to cover large distances. Ideally you have paddled with me or Kate before or perhaps you can get another coach who knows you to advise and give a thumbs up.

It is likely that you will be self-sufficient in terms of kayak and paddling equipment but kayak and paddling equipment is available to hire at an additional cost.
